| 9/28/11 My birthday in 2011 is one I will always remember. My daughter was
born. Jennifer and I named her Gabriella. My wife makes beautiful
kids! About a month ahead of time, knowing that I am a big fan of Sylvester Stallone, Jennifer bought me the Rocky series. Then my brother with some friends of ours bought me an autographed Sylvester Stallone photo from Rocky IV. Wow, how cool is that for a guy right?
It gets better. Late in 2010, I sent a portrait drawing to Donald
Trump in New York with a note wishing him and his family a Merry
Christmas. I thought maybe he would send a little pre-printed thank you
note. I mean, the man is busy right? (He's got a lot of people to
"fire!") We got back from the hospital to find a package already
at our home. I opened it and was pleasantly surprised to find an
autographed photo of Donald Trump and one of his books titled, Think Like a Champion, which was also signed on the first page! The book, by the way, is in my opinion, his best one yet.
So, all in all, it was the best birthday I have ever had. It cannot be
topped. Unless, of course, when I hit 30, Donald Trump invites us to
dinner and Jennifer gives birth to twins!

1/8/11 | Where to
begin? 2010 was filled with many great moments! We participated in four art shows in: Fish Creek, Ephraim, and
two shows Sturgeon Bay, WI. We have been blessed to meet many new faces
also on our stand-alone paint-outs, especially at Centerpointe Marina
in Sturgeon Bay! Our art was also showcased in two Peninsula Pulse
newspaper articles just this year! We were even reviewed for the 2010
Nevada Governor Jim Gibbon's Portrait Commission competition (wow, that
was a mouthful)! Also, we had a record number of custom-made
commissions this year, so thank you everyone for all your orders. You
are a great blessing to Kornowski Originals! Make sure to spread the
word! Lastly, murals
became a big part of the business this year... many of which can be
found at a wonderful business called Door County Coffee and Tea, in
Carlsville, WI. Need a mural painted? Give us a call! This year was the year of expansion... we did children's murals, dog portraits, banners, and yacht paintings. You asked for it... we did it! Always remember, we aim to please, and we relish in versatility and in pleasing our clients! We hope that YOU have a blessed year in 2011! (Photo: Thanks to Dennis Connolly)

7/31/10 Recently, my wife and I were able to visit the Norman Rockwell show at the Paine Art Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin (www.thepaine.org). We were floored. Rockwell was extremely talented at catching a moment in a person's life, and leaving it on canvas for future generations to observe. The detail this man put into his work is easily on par with the works of the Old Masters. Two of them looked very Rembrandt-esque (if that is a term!). My personal favorite was Shuffleton's Barbershop (pictured below). Oh, did I mention we saw his original work, not just reproductions? One can learn much from viewing the actual artwork; the very brushstrokes and layers of paint tell a detailed story that no photo reproduction ever could. If you can, I would encourage you to view Rockwell's original artwork if you can at some point in your life. Norman said, "I paint life as I would like it to be." I think that rings true with all people. We all see the world as WE see it, that is what makes us all unique. And that is what makes people gaze for lengthy periods of time at Rockwell's beautiful art.

3/25/10 Once in a while, one comes across an exceptional painter. I am amazed by the ability of painters like Aleksander Gierymski to observe what they see. Many people see, but they do not observe. This is what artists do best. They study, analyze, and think deeply about what they see. This doesn't make an artist better than anyone else; it is just what they do. Gierymski does just that. He observes light playing on the building's surfaces, as to make it look like the buildings themselves are coming out of the canvases. His way of painting night scenes is also astounding, as not many artists take on the challenge of painting in the open air at night. His close attention to detail is what stands out to me the most. His colors are very bright and his scenes are extremely realistic. Take a moment to click the link, www.pinakoteka.zascianek.pl/Gierymski_A/Index.htm and peruse the gallery of master painter, Aleksander Gierymski. I know you will not be disappointed. Some of the greatest artists of all time are almost completely unknown. I hope through this blog I can "shed some light" on this artist's beautiful paintings! Enjoy!

1/22/10| My favorite painting in the world today is not found in the Sistine Chapel or in the Louvre. It was not made in the Italian Renaissance, although great works of art were made during that time. My favorite painting in the world is not of a Biblical nature, as I am a Christian. It is not large by any means and only showcases one person, not many people. It is not a painting of a famous person, by any means, at least that anyone can tell. Ofcourse, that does not make the subject of this painting any less special, but gives you and I the ability to relate to the subject and to what they are doing.
You see, this painting prooves that great art is not made necessarily by what or who the artist is painting, but what the subject means to the artist. All of us feel a certain way toward things; whether it's a cloud, or a rainbow, or a smile. All of us share our feelings with our friends and our families. Artists may do this with a brush, paints, and a canvas.
I have never seen this painting up close and personal before, but I do see it everyday on the homescreen of my cell phone! I would like to share it with you, too. The artist's name is Johannes Vermeer and the painting is titled, The Milkmaid. The simple beauty of a woman patiently pouring milk into a basin has captured it's viewers for more than 350 years, and as you view it, I believe you will see why it is my favorite painting in the world.

1/21/10| Recently, my father-in-law took my brother and I to the Milwaukee Art Museum in Milwaukee, WI. As we perused the great masterpieces, we all chose our favorites. Then, a great masterpiece caught my eye, a painting of men in a horse drawn sled called "Winter in Russia." I said, "THAT is my favorite!" My father-in-law asked me who painted it, and then I read the label: it said "Kowalski." He said, "that's probably why you like it." My name is obviously similar to this artist's name. This really caught my attention. (If you ever get to Milwaukee, WI, make sure to see this masterpiece.) After viewing this painting, when I got home, I immediately began researching these painters on the internet. Kowalski is a big name, but are there others I asked myself? The answer was yes, MANY others of great quality. Roman Kochanowski's work reminds me of winters here in Wisconsin. All I can say is "simply elegant." But, I will let these master painters speak for themselves through their beautiful renditions of the landscape around them. The rocks, trees, horses, and people in their paintings tell stories that seem to have no end. Enjoy these links as I have; I am happy to have discovered them for myself, and even happier to share them with you!
